Our Favorite Church Fundraising Ideas 1. Crowdfunding for Churches What is crowdfunding? Crowdfunding is a great way for the individuals in your church to raise money for specific projects or causes. For instance, if an assistant pastor and his family are looking to go on a mission trip, they can set up a crowdfunding page for members of the church to give directly online. Why is crowdfunding our favorite? Crowdfunding enables your church to rally around a single cause and help a particular individual or family. All giving efforts are directed at helping this one person or group of people accomplish a goal or cover an expense that they would otherwise be unable to cover on their own. How do you get started? Luckily, there is no shortage of great crowdfunding platforms out there. Your congregants can choose from a wide range of easy-to-use online giving services.

Welcome to first semester. I was talking to a group of teachers about the start of semester and how they break the ice with students. Speed dating was the reply, three of the five use the same icebreaker! Interactions of an object with another object can be explained and predicted using the concept of forces, which can cause a change in motion of one or both of the interacting objects. An individual force acts on one particular object and is described by its strength and direction. The strengths of forces can be measured and their values compared. What happens when a force is applied to an object depends not only on that force but also on all the other forces acting on that object.

A static object typically has multiple forces acting on it, but they sum to zero. If the total vector sum force on an object is not zero, however, its motion will change.

Filed under Pagadian City The Philippines, being a country archipelago of islands and seas, have naturally wonderful beaches, some of which are famous the world over. Beaches like Puerto Galera, Boracay, and the various beaches in Cebu rake in tourists from around the world all year round because of their pristine and cool blue waters and fine, white-sand shores.

However, if one will just look around more, they will find that there are other less-known but equally beautiful beach spots in other parts of the Philippines. In Pagadian, in particular, there are beaches and islands that will make one believe that there is such a thing as a secluded paradise on Earth. A nice place to start would be the Dao-Dao Islands some seven to ten minutes away from the seaport, when riding a motorboat.

Last week we ended with the Secret Ingredient that Ties Top Teams Together , where the bottom line is that people need to really know each other before they can become a high performing team. When team members have understood and accepted the power of disclosure I do a number of team building activities that helps them get everything together. Example of some of these questions are: How would your best friend describe you? What is your dream job? What are you most passionate about?

What would you take with you to a desert island? If you had to be someone else for a day, who would you be and why? If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be? If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? The answers to these questions are often fun and more importantly very revealing what the person is about and provides a great 2.

You can let students select or assign them randomly. Students will research specific information as referenced in the guide sheet below, filling out the notes sheet as they research. Use the information to create a business card the size of an index card for their vitamin or mineral to use during the speed dating presentations.

To encourage discussion and engagement between attendees it’s useful to come up with a fun networking concept. Even the traditional cocktail party or sit-down dinner can become a little more exciting with the addition of some games or clever techniques to get people to socialize. Wine Charm Mixer To encourage people to talk to one another, make a game of it.

Give 10 wine charms to each person as they arrive. As people meet up to chat, they swap a charm until everyone has 10 unique charms from others. All guests who meet the goal of 10 charms have their names placed in a drawing for a door prize. Speed Networking A business take on speed dating, speed networking gives individuals three minutes to chat with someone new before the signal to move on to the next person. If your gathering is small enough, try a session of speed networking for the first hour of the event, followed by a casual cocktail party or sit-down dinner where people can meet up again and continue conversations.

Mystery Dinner or Scavenger Hunt For a sit-down dinner networking event, have all participants work toward solving a mystery. Clues can be hidden in the napkins of each place setting; diners will receive directions to visit neighboring tables to get additional clues. Alternatively, set up a scavenger hunt before dinner begins where everyone is paired up and tasked with finding a particular item to bring to the front of the room.

The items will each provide a clue to the answer to a question; the first pair to guess the answer wins a prize.

One of the issues that I try to address in the classroom is to have each student talking with the other students about their academic work. If you have students in groups, some will dominate and some will play wall flower. With speed learning, students are challenged to have several one on one conversations with the other students. I communicate a defined outcome as well as a time limit to help focus the discussions.

Steps for using the method in class:

If my theory of relativity is proven successful, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world.

Hodes EdD The panel discussion is a valuable, time-tested teaching technique used in classrooms of all types to help students understand the experiences of a particular group of people. My previous experiences facilitating successful panel discussions led me to believe that a panel would be a good method to use here. In an effort to create a panel that represented a diversity of functions and practitioners, I ended up with too many panelists and, consequently, an ineffective exercise.

As the instructor and panel moderator, one has to manage the questions from the class as well as rein in the excitement and enthusiasm of the panel participants to impart their wisdom. A large panel makes that difficult. I asked the class for feedback following the inclusion of two panel discussions. They loved the panel but wanted to have time to ask more questions and hear more from each person than time allowed.

Magic Marking With reports of teachers spending 60 hours a week working, there is always a need to consider how we can make life just a little bit easier. As usual, in our small working groups, staff discussed what they currently do, their concerns and problems, and we shared ideas and tried to support each other in finding ways to reduce time but increase the impact of our marking strategies. We started by marking a piece of work individually and then looking at the ways we had approached this.

Did we take the same amount of time? Did we find the criteria for marking helpful?

Monday, July 13, Favorite Lesson At the conclusion of this past Sunday’s oklaed twitter chat our moderator for the evening, Michelle Waters , challenged those in Oklahoma who write blogs which address educational themes to compose a post on the topic of our favorite lesson plan. She has some wonderful posts over at her blog: My favorite lesson, or at least one that I really enjoyed using, from this past school year used a “Speed Dating” conversational format through which my AP United States students taught each other about an individual from the Progressive Era reform movements of the s to s.

I have previously mentioned this lesson as part of another oklaed bloggers challenge in my post titled 1CoolThing. Also, while I have modified some of the expectations to meet the needs of my students, the premise behind this lesson did not originate in my brain. I participate in a private Facebook based professional learning community and learned about this strategy in this forum.
